(Super) Simple Bali Pork

I saw this very simple recipe for Bali Pork and had set it aside forgetting all about it until yesterday.  We have just purchased some pork belly and had a full bottle of kecap manis, both of which are the main ingredients for the recipe and decided to give it a go.  It is supposed to be spicy but since too much spice gives me migraine, I omitted the chillies which I know would have made this even more mouth watering.


about 700 grams pork belly, cut into small cubes

2-3 tablespoons canola oil (or any cooking oil you use)

1 onion, chopped

4 pieces garlic, minced (bottled ones are okay to use)

about 4 cm size fresh ginger, sliced thinly (my daughter and I don’t like biting onto ginger so I slice them up a bit bigger so we can see them easily and pick them off lol — the ginger does give the pork a good flavour and my husband loves eating the ginger)

1/2 cup kecap manis

optional:  about 4 red and/or green chillies

What you need to do:

In a saucepan, cover your pork with water and bring to a boil.  Simmer in low heat for 45 minutes.  Drain and set aside.

Heat your oil in a large pan or wok.  Add the onions, garlic, chillies (if you are using them) and ginger.  Stir fry for about 2 minutes and savour the fragrance.  Add the pork and the kecap manis and continue stir frying for about 5 minutes.

Serve with rice and asian greens.  Love it!
